DHARAVI WEEK 1

Dharavi is the heart Mumbai, its because is in the centre of the city and because it has the shape of a heart. Dharavi is located between Mumbai's two main suburban railway lines, the Western and Central Railways.

Dharavi is the biggest slum in all india, but its not only important because of that, it has a important impact in Mumbai economy, because in Dharavi everything is produced and cheap. Before this area tourned out to be a slum it was a fishing village but this disappeard because the creek dried up, so this empty space was used for new communities move in.

To get to know dharavi it takes a lot of time, in the three weeks we where there I just can say thant i know just a little bit of it.

Its a really different experience to walk arround and inside the slum, the first day we walked arround the slum by the important streets and rail roads and the second day we walked through the slum. using all our sences, and trying to describe the slum by them. we made some conclutions by producing some diagrams and maps.

As everything is new and different sometimes our sences were blocked.

The pollution is everywhere, people live between garbage.

You can walk on the rail roads, peolpe lives just next to them, this makes it very dangerous, because you can see people just walking, women washing their clothes, etc, we witness an accident, it was really a bad experience.
The difference between the border and the incide of Dharavi is amazing, the border is more polluted, people are more agressive, and the poorest people lives in the border, but when you go inside everything is different people are nice, and they always want to help you, by walking inside you can get an idea of how everything is organized in that big mess.
